As we all known,teaching materials are essential to classroom teaching.On the one hand,it is the main basis for teacher classroom teaching.On the other,it is also the main basis material for students to learn.Therefore,the textbook itself and how to promote the creative use of teaching materials has been a hot topic of education.Textbooks are compiled by course specialists who consider abstract and conceptual students,while in the use of teaching materials,teachers are facing with the real and have different personalities of students.The contradiction between the universality of teaching materials and the diversity of teaching situation require teachers to design the contents of teaching materials in their teaching process and use the teaching materials creatively.This thesis is divided into four chapters,the chapters are summarized as follows: the first is introduction,it introduces the thesis' background and states the purpose,the content and the method of this paper.The first chapter is the summarizes of the teaching materials handling in literature.It defines the relevant concepts of teaching materials and teaching materials handling.It also expounds the research status of teaching materials handling at home and at abroad.The second chapter is based on a primary school in Haikou and describes how English teachers handle their textbooks.This chapter mainly uses the text analysis method.Trying to analyze the contrast between the textbook and the teachers' specific lesson plans from introduction,the new lesson teaching and the practice in order to fully understand the specific situation of teaching materials handling in the primary school.The third is the analysis of materials handling in the primary school,it points out the problems existing in the processing of materials handling in the primary school and put forward some feasible strategies about materials handling in the primal school.
