Research On The Male College Students Engagement And Its Influencing Factors

Student survey is becoming an important technique in the university education quality guarantee system and the data source,which includes improving the quality of student learning experience,exploring and indicating the effective education methods.Famous institutions of higher education in our country named Pan Mao Mr Yuan once said: "if people ignore the learning for college students as the main body of education research,they can't solve the problem about the quality of higher education from the origin of education." From2007,the number of girls is the first time larger than the number of boys in the domestic ordinary college enrollment,after which the number of girls has an overwhelming advantage.Moreover,the performance of female college students is generally better than the performance of male college students."Boy crisis" has become a focus in higher education field.Therefore,To focus on the male college students learning engagement will be of great significance to improve the quality of personnel training in the field of higher education in China.This survey puts studying engagement and its influencing factors theories into the base of the questionnaires compilation and refers to NSEE and NSSE-CHINA in order to further explore male college student engagement and its influencing factors.Through the investigation and study found that male college students studying engagement is lower than female college student,the level of male college students studying engagement is below average degree.Self-evaluation on what the male college students achieve is in high degree.Male college students gain higher self evaluation,there is a positive correlation relationship between every dimension of studying engagement and self-evaluation;Male college students studying engagement in the student's individual characteristics is different,which includes household register,grade,subject,the highest expected degree,parents education level.there's a positive correlation between studying motivation,studying attitude,studying environment and studying engagement.According to the importance of the influencing factors,the order is studying environment,studying attitude,studying motivation.Combined with questionnaires and case interviews,the survey reveals the main problems existing in the male college students learning: firstly,the male college students' individual level: low professional identity,negative learning attitude,weak studying will,susceptible to environmental impact,learning strategies unable to adapt to studying;Secondly,teachers level:single teaching methods,not enough depth and breadth to grasp on the teaching content,failing to make full use of technical means,imperfect student's evaluation system t;Thirdly,curriculum level: undefined freshman seminar effect,curriculum "adventurers" at senior stage,unreasonable curriculum structure and setup.In terms of the male college student studying engagement and its problems,this survey is aimed to explore the strategies from the following aspects,which include improving the studying motivation of male student engagement,constructing a good relationship between teachers and students,setting proper college curriculum and building thorough curriculum system,creating college environment like “studying community”.
