Mathematics is a rigorous,logical and extensive tool subject for many indispensable and important courses taught throughout primary school,secondary school,university and even postgraduate institute.All nations worldwide have placed great value on mathematics learning as it is an important indicator of national competitiveness.For this reason,the Malaysian Preliminary Report on the Blueprint for the Development of Education 2013-2025 places special emphasis on the report of The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement and emphasizes that the country's ranking will be raised to the top one-third by 2025.Therefore,improving the quality of existing teachers and teaching methods,and promoting students learning ability have been set as a primary task.And as each student's learning ability is different,it is necessary to make adjustments to the teaching mode to facilitate learning.This study aims at providing different guidance to students with different learning ability,by means of the appropriate design of teaching materials,to cultivate and enhance their learning ability.In addition to the introduction,this study consists of five parts.The introduction is mainly directed to two international educational assessment report that pointed out some serious problems in the areas of basic knowledge teaching,its teaching direction and the mastery of the knowledge in Malaysia,the definition of mathematical learning ability in this study,as well as researches regarding the nurturing of mathematical learning ability done in China and outside China,and at the same time introduces the thinking behind this study and its method.The first part briefly introduces the general situation of educational development in Malaysia and the latest educational reform program(The Malaysian Preliminary Report on the Blueprint for the Development of Education 2013-2025),and analyzes the performance of Malaysian students in mathematics learning and the reasons for the decline in results.In the second part,the paper puts forward the cultivation strategy of mathematical learning ability.Through the Kumon Method of Learning,that is,providing individualized instruction,assigning specially designed small-step worksheets,making close observation upon the progress of the students and setting individual learning progress,students are allowed to learn according to their abilities and pursue their full potential,whereby mathematics can be mastered by self-learning,and overall learning ability can be improved.The third part introduces the Kumon method of learning,its unique learning foci and syllables.Meanwhile the class flow of Kumon learning is listed in this part.The fourth part is a case study.Individual students of the same grade studying the same materials were offered different guidance,learning at their own pace,and even studying beyond their school year with contents that has yet to be taught at school.The fifth part is the conclusions and recommendations that once again illustrates the importance of mathematical learning ability,and makes suggestions for enhancing the application of such learning method.
