Wushu is one of the traditional Chinese sports programmes. Wushu plays an important part in traditional Chinese culture and education. Wushu teaching in senior high school contributes to improving students' mental and corporal health and promoting traditional Chinese culture as well as traditional Chinese spirit.This research investigates the current situation of Wushu teaching in senior high schools in Zibo. The research methods include doing literature review, experts interview,questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics, and logical analysis. This research looks at Wushu teaching in senior high schools in Zibo with the help of these research methods.The research results are:1. Wushu, as a course, has been involved in teaching schedules in each senior high school in Zibo. But the teaching effect of Wushu is not satisfying. The teaching quality of Wushu needs to be improved. There are some major reasons contributed to the current teaching situation. Schools leaders have not attached importance to Wushu teaching. The proficiency of Wushu teachers relatively is not satisfying. The Wushu sessions are not enough. Students' levels are dramatically different. Many schools are deficient in providing sports ground and Wushu instruments.2. Wushu teaching is practiced by teaching students Wushu set exercises in PE class.Thus, Wushu teaching lacks diversities. Moreover; all the senior high schools involved in the research did not put Wushu teaching contents into class-break exercises.3. Wushu teachers usually select teaching contents without recognised standards.Many Wushu teachers could not understand the requirements of selecting teaching contents in the new curriculum standard. A lot of teachers ignore students' needs for development, which leads to the inconsistency between students' interests in Wushu and the teaching contents provided by Wushu teaching classes.4. The research shows some advantages in gender ratio of the teachers, their teaching time, education background, and professional titles. But there are many disadvantages which would influence Wushu teachers in keeping physical fitness,improving their professional skills,and realising Wushu teaching proficiency. Gender imbalance of Wushu teachers is outstanding. Professional Wushu teachers only take up a small part of all the teachers teaching Wushu now. moreover, it is hard for some teachers to learn new Wushu set exercises, and many teachers lack certain exercises. In addition,some training programmes irrelevant to the profession impede the improvement of Wushu.5. Some students are interested in practicing Wushu, but they do not have a correct understanding of Wushu, which leads to the situation that many students have a very vague learning motive and their performances vary dramatically.6. Students' satisfaction of present Wushu teaching, including the teaching ground and teaching instruments, is low.7. Many schools did not have qualified Wushu textbooks which were suitable for their specific teaching situation and reasonable teaching contents. Thus, it is difficult to upgrade and systemise Wushu teaching in these schools.This thesis examines the current situation of Wushu teaching in senior high schools in Zibo. Based on the analysis of the possible reasons, the thesis proposes some strategies for improvement.1. The teaching administrations should attach importance to Wushu teaching, make practical teaching policies to improve Wushu teaching, and take Wushu teaching as a dimension of the evaluation system in evaluating senior high schools.2. The investigation of specific Wushu skills should be included in recruiting new PE teachers. More Wushu majors should be recruited, and more attention should be paid to teachers' trainings after they are employed.3. the teaching administrations should guarantee Wushu teaching sessions and standardise Wushu teaching contents based on new curriculum standard, students'situation in different learning stages and studying levels.4. Schools should promote Wushu culture and enrich Wushu teaching styles on campus to bring Wushu ethics to campus life. Vigorously promote "Wushu into campus"activity, extensive martial arts as the main contents of the big recess.5. Teachers should successively improve their Wushu skills and abilities through more practices.6. Teachers should scientifically and reasonably design their teaching and improve their teaching effects by using creative Wushu teaching methods.7. Senior high schools should provide the necessities in Wushu teaching,such as the teaching ground and the instruments.8. Through Wushu teaching, Wushu teachers should instruct students to have a correct understanding of Wushu as well as reasonable study motivation and should enhance students' learning interest. In addition, Wushu teachers need to initiatively communicate with students to understand students' demands for learning and development and to know their learning situation in order to improve Wushu teaching constantly, raise students' satisfaction of Wushu teaching, and make full use of the advantages of Wushu teaching in improving students' physical and mental development.
