Research On The Application Of EQUIP In Inquiry-based Instruction Classroom Assessment In High School Chemistry Classroom

The core idea of the new curriculum reform is "students-oriented", the core task is to improve the comprehensive quality of students. Effective inquiry teaching is an important task to cultivate students' comprehensive quality, therefore, to help high school chemistry teachers to improve inquiry instruction level and promote students'understanding of scientific concepts, realize the chemistry curriculum reform goal is very valuable. However, since the curriculum reform, middle school teachers in China to improve the ability of scientific inquiry instruction evaluation tool is not ideal, one of the important reason is that there is no operationalizing comprehensive evaluation of classroom inquiry instruction . Teaching evaluation has been a "bottleneck". Electronic Quality of Inquiry Protocol (EQUIP) which have developed by Marshall J. C team provides a series of scales to describe the inquiry-based instruction.It is effective inquiry instruction assessment tool. It can fully reflect the teaching performance of teachers of science inquiry, improve teachers' reflection, provides a reliable tool. In order to accurately judge the quality of frontline chemistry teachers' inquiry-based instruction ,and analysis their teaching behavior characteristics, causes, the author used the opportunities of teaching practice which in key senior high school in Wuhan city for more than two months, attended many chemistry teachers' scientific inquiry class in the school. By selecting two key chemistry teachers teacher C and teacher Y as the case study, the author chosed two most representative lessons(from Chemistry 1 "Metals and their compounds")for classroom observation,videoing,and transcribed the video into test .Then the author respectively used EQUIP and CCIAS which the author improved to analysis, from two aspects of qualitative and quantitative research. The results show that inquiry-based classroom has many common problems. According to these problems, the author did an interview, analyzed the reasons, and gave some corresponding suggestions.In order to help teachers improve quality of inquiry-based instruction,the author used EQUIP and CCIAS to analyze a winning classroom video,which from National Quality Class Competition.It shows the characteristics of high-quality inquiry teaching.These studies are useful for chemistry teacher to esplore esisting problems in teaching,improve the teaching process, and promote their professional development.The EQUIP assessment tool is a qualitative analysis system, which includes five factors: time usage, teaching, discourse, evaluation and curriculum. Used EQUIP to analyze C and Y teachers' classroom , the author found the following characteristics:(1)Their inquiry-based instruction quality is generally in the middle level (developing inquiry) ; (2) The order of instruction level is low; (3) teachers as the center, Lack of interaction; (4) The assessment level almost is understand knowledge, lack of critical thinking training; (5) lack of big ideas to construction. The whole teaching process is almost teacher-centered.The methods is guide and traditional instruction.The author used CCIAS to analyze inquiry-based classroom teaching transcripts of C and Y teacher, and also corroborated two teachers on inquiry classroom language of teachers accounted for more than 70%. The demonstration esperiment and the question is the traditional way of the ausiliary class.With EQUIP assessment tools and CCIAS encoding analyzing inquiry classroom transcripts of L teacher from qualitative and quantitative, it has the following characteristics: (1) the inquiry instruction level in the whole is the above middle level; (2)the order of inquiry teaching activities is slightly high; (3) the students as the center are more than interactive; (4) teaching evaluation is based on knowledge application; (5)inquiry instruction value idea construction.The teachers' talking in class is only 45.2%.It is show the interaction between teacher and students is very close.The innovation of this paper is as follows:(1)The deep literature research on inquiry-based instruction assessment procotol(EQUIP) was carried out.(2) The chemistry classroom interaction analysis system (CCIAS) is improved.(3) Using EQUIP and CCIAS, this paper makes a detailed analysis and exploration of the practical classroom of chemistry inquiry teaching from qualitative and quantitative aspects.
