The content of natural geography teaching is the classic content of geography teaching in senior high school,which is the base of high school geography study,and is also the key and difficult point of geography teaching in senior high school.The theory of "the zone of proximal development" of the Soviet Union scholar Vygotsky provides the theoretical support and teaching strategy for the natural geography teaching in senior high school.The theory of "the zone of proximal development"emphasizes that the classroom teaching must be based on the existing cognitive level of the students,to find the best teaching period and to select the appropriate teaching strategies to promote the development of students' abilities.This paper is based on the "recent developments" theory,analyzes the theory of the zone of proximal development in the PEP compulsory 1 of high school geography teaching in the theoretical and practical significance and research status at home and abroad,expounds the basic content and the core idea of the zone of proximal development theory,analysis method,empirical research method and quantitative analysis method from the case study,puts forward the application conditions and steps in geography teaching in high school;in the "nearest development area" theory under the guidance of the PEP compulsory 1 of senior high school geography teaching from three aspects:the design of geography teaching,geography teaching strategies and teaching evaluation and combining the Geography teaching case study.Finally,starting from the actual teaching,in the "nearest development area" under the guidance of the theory,empirical research,classroom teaching,after class through the examination of students' learning situation for quantitative analysis,demonstration of"recent developments" theory of high school geography teaching effectiveness of compulsory 1.In this paper,the theory of "the zone of proximal development" derived from the scaffolding,situational and cooperative teaching strategies are helpful to the teaching of natural geography in senior high school.The implication of the theory of "the zone of proximal development" is to meet the teaching practice and students' practice,and to promote the teaching of physical geography in senior high school.
