There are many theories that have far-reaching influence in the field of pedagogy.the 'Zone of Proximal Development(ZPD)' theory of Vygotsky is one of them, which has a great influence once put forward. With the deepening of the research on this theory,it has gone from the initial macro level of pedagogical principles to the micro field of subject teaching. It can be seen that we should attach importance to the guiding role of ZPD theory and carry it out in the classroom teaching,so as to improve our teaching quality. This paper focus on geography teaching under the theory of ZPD in senior high school. The paper has five parts. The first part describes the research background, significance, research status at home and abroad,as well as the research methods and technical routes of this paper. The second part is an overview of ZPD theory.Firstly, the background of ZPD theory is described;Secondly,it introduces the basic content of ZPD theory, and points out that the region between the current development level and the possible development level of students is 'zone of proximal development'.Moreover,Vygotsky discussed the relationship between ZPD theory and teaching is reflected in three aspects:Teaching should be ahead of development;Teaching should be set according to the ZPD;Grasp the best period of teaching. Finally,by comparing the traditional static evaluation with the dynamic evaluation, the gradual prompt model in the dynamic evaluation is selected as the method to evaluate the ZPD of students in this paper. In the third part, the author evaluates the ZPD of high school students, taking the third section of the first chapter of China Map Press Geography Book One(Compulsory)which is called 'earth movement' as an example.Based on the test results, the ZPD of students is divided into three grades. Then interview students of different levels of ZPD.According to the interview results, find out the differences in learning interest, class participation, class concentration, map reading ability of students with different levels of learning ability. In the fourth part, based on the theory of ZPD,the author puts forward the teaching strategies of geography class in senior high school as follows:Group cooperation teaching in accordance with group heterogeneity;Stratified teaching in order to mobilize the participation of all students, including teaching goal stratification, classroom questioning stratification, homework stratification and teaching evaluation stratification;Flexible selection of teaching methods based on students' differences. The fifth part is conclusion and prospect. It mainly summarizes the specific work in this paper and explains the problem still exists which is expected to be further discussed in the future research.Besides,The future research direction is prospected.
