The Mechanism And Unexpected Consequences Of Rural Women’s Participation In Social Protest

Since the modern times,women have broken free from the traditional bondage.Women’s movement is surging internationally and the feminist trend of thought has gradually become an important ideology in the world today.Women began to attract people’s attention.They move to their own jobs,exercise their own civil rights,even perform noticeably well in the political,economic,social and other areas.In recent years,the female groups have showed up in the social protests.Women are no longer willing to obey and forbear.They are become the protestant who dare to fight for their own interests and to fight against injustice from the protected housewife.Different from the male groups,women use their own unique advantages to resist and follow their own logic in the purpose,methods,strategies,behavior and so on.They have their own characteristics.The grassroots people use the identity of "the weak" as a weapon in the social fight,while the female groups use the identity of "gender" as a special weapon of the weak which makes them begin to become the significant force in the social protest groups.This paper attempts to explore the mechanism and unintended consequences of rural women’s partic ipation in social protest by investigating the typical X village in Shanxi province with the phenomenon of female resistance.In addition to the introduction,this artic le inc ludes four parts: the first part is the show of the trajectory of the female resistance movement,which reproduces the process and picture of the struggle of the female group of X village from the contending conscience to the actual action.The second part is the elaboration of the mechanism of female protest,pointing out that women’s participation in social struggle is the result of the combined effect including social environment,political background and network resources.The third part is the summary of female res istance characteristics and unexpected consequences,summarizing the characteristics of female resistance,that is,res ist by crying and screaming,emotional irrational protest and acting threatening means.And it points out that female protests may have many unexpected consequences.For example,the struggle is even more difficult to solve,female groups may be stigmatized,hollow village will face potential instability.The fourth part draws the preliminary conclusion,responds to the original theory of protest.This article argues that the grassroots people take the "weak" identity as a powerful weapon of protest,while the female groups take the "gender" status as a special weapon of the weak.This is a new way of protest at the grassroots level.Finally,the author puts forward some possible policy suggestions on female social protest,so as to promote the maintenance of social order,the establishment of harmonious society and the realization of governance modernization.
