| As the late Qing Dynasty educationalist Zhang Jian put it, women’s education was crucial to a family; uneducated women promised an uncivilized family which would result in perverse ethos. As secondary vocational school girls constitute a component of vast Chinese women, the level of their qualities has much to do with the overall qualities of the Chinese nation. For them, secondary vocational school years will be the exact time when they are developing both physically and psychologically. There will be increasing psychological problems for them, especially emotional troubles. Therefore, it is increasingly important to establish suitable and effective guiding team to help them develop healthily in psychology. Through group counseling for freshman and sophomore girl students at the Mechanical and Electrical School of Guizhou, this paper tries to explore ways to improve mental health and sexual mental health of girl students from vocational schools. By solving their psychological confusion, this paper finds way to help them get into the society in a healthy way. That is how the overall social quality can be enhanced.By survey and quasi-experiment, 60 girl students from 2014 and 2015 classes from the Mechanical and Electrical School of Guizhou were selected and divided into Experiment Group and Control Group. Girls of Experiment Group received group counseling, while those in Control Group were not intervened. Before counseling, students from both groups were pre-tested with Symptom Check List-90(SCL-90) and Adolescent Psychosexual Health Questionnaire, and the group showed no obvious difference. After 8 weeks of interference(one group counseling each week) with Experiment group, two groups were post-tested. Results show that Experiment Group saw significant improvement in terms of SCL-90 and Adolescent Psychosexual Health Questionnaire results, as compared to Control Group. Also, Experiment Group received higher scores in post-test than in pre-test for both approaches.Research finds that appropriate group counseling helps to improve mental health and psychosexual health of girl students in vocational schools, and this approach, after further validation, can be promoted in future student education and administration. |
