As is well known, reading teaching is vital to English teaching. However, the actual reading teaching situation is that there are still lots of problems about reading teaching in rural senior high schools. For example, the teaching methods applied in reading teaching are relatively traditional. Most of the teachers mainly focus on important words and phrases and ask students to recite important sentences. The task-based teaching model lays stress on “ learning by doing”. In the process of reading teaching, students are required to use English to complete tasks. “Learning by doing”can motivate students' learning initiative and learning enthusiasm.After the research on the task-based teaching model, the author states the present teaching situation in rural senior high schools and applies the task-based teaching model to English reading teaching in order to answer the following three questions: firstly, how to apply the task-based teaching model to improve students' interest in reading;secondly, how to apply the task-based teaching model to develop students' good reading habits;thirdly, how to apply the task-based teaching model to help students master correct reading strategies. In the end, through the application and analysis of the task-based teaching model, teachers are able to find a more suitable task-based teaching model in rural senior high schools.The data is collected and analyzed based on the tests and questionnaires. It is found that the task-based teaching model can motivate students' interest in reading, help students cultivate students' good reading habits and grasp correct reading strategies.However, the limitations about the research are also obvious: the number of the experimental subjects is small; the research time is limited and the evaluation of the reading ability is not comprehensive. If the author does a related research again, these factors should be considered.
