With the further development of economic society in Urumqi,many social problems are increasingly brought to surface in the process of social transformation.Ethnic social work was established accordingly and plays a pivotal role in solving ethnic social problems.Nevertheless,ethnic social work is still at its developmental stage and the complicated regional conditions in ethnic areas have set up many obstacles against this nascent industry,which render a number of ethnic social workers subject to great hardship.By means of purposive interviews and according to professional standards,this essay takes the working conditions of on-the-job ethnic social workers in Urumqi as the entry point and emphasizes an investigation on the structure condition,localization condition,professional status,certificate bearing condition and post setup condition,aiming to analyze the existent professional problems among ethnic social workers on the basis of writer's practical experience,existing professional data for research and the research results of current policies.The survey manifested that on the way to being professional,the ethnic social workers are confronted with problems such as insufficient policy and financial support,unsound professional system,low social recognition and individual professional literacy,heavy workloads and a low proportion of works from ethnic minorities.These problems have tremendously affected ethnic social workers' professionalism,restricted the accomplishment of the functions of this industry and brought more social dissatisfaction and self-doubt to the workers.The writer proposed several opinions with high practicability on ethnic social workers' professional path: carry out relevant legislative work;facilitate the localization of ethnic social workers' professions by the establishment of scientific value system,theoretical innovation and the initiation of ethnic work;enhance professional education and scientific training and build a team with high-quality workers;consummate license,registration,check and evaluation,post setting and professional managerial system;improve employment security and social recognition and make sure ethnic social workers' professionalism can step into a scientific orbit.
