Talent competition has become a criterion of measuring the soft power among countries.Universitiesare responsible for developing talent.At the same time,with the trend of establishing top universities in China,first-class talent training has attached much attention.In May 2016 in Xiamen University “first-class undergraduate teaching forum” appealedto colleges and universities to put more stresson undergraduate talent education,and innovate talent cultivation mode.In this context,it is of great theoretical and practical value to study the mode of talent cultivation in world-class universities.This study adopts literature research and case study by selecting Stanford University as a representative of the first-class university,the author starts from sorting literature---describing cultivation mode---analyzing characteristicsand causes---reflection and inspiration.To be specific,it mainly includes: introduction,literature review,research design,theoretical terms,mode analysis,and conclusion.Firstly,the writer mainly discusses the background and the significance of the research.Thendefines core concepts: “world-class university” and “talent cultivation mode”.By means of literature review,the elements of talent cultivation mode consist of training objectives,professional settings,curriculum system and teaching management.Secondly,the author elucidates research object,research methods and research design in this study,and introduces the relevant policy literature,research reports and two theories.Thirdly,the author analyzes the specific situation of the four elements which form Stanford Universityundergraduate talent cultivation mode,and summarize the characteristics of these elements;then,expounds the causes of these characteristics from the aspect of two theories.Fourthly,according to the specific situation of undergraduate talents education in China,the author makes some suggestions to universities and government.Finally,the writer give a summary of key points of this study,points out the problems of the study and offer some suggestions for future study.
