A Survey On Space Geometrical Thinking Ability Of Students In The Third Year Of Senior Middle School

Mathematical thinking ability –whose core is geometrical thinking ability– is irreplaceable in the cultivating student's practical thinking ability.It makes students think from multi-direction and multi-angle.It can also expands students thinking domain,teach students what is a creative thinking.The creative thinking is an urgent requirement of the entire science world.So we can say that improving students geometrical thinking ability with great effort is an urgent requirement of the nowadays society.I made a complete survey during my three years of practice in high school.Diagnose the thinking ability of students in the third year of high school in Hotan region.The content and method of this survey is using a scientific designed test and questionnaire,make a test in high schools and randomly extracted on class in every grade of Guma,Karakash,Hotan,Lop and Qira county high schools.Give every student a paper and a questionnaire,and require them to finish it in a specific time.There are 607 valid papers in 614 participants.Then make a statistics,generalize and divide them into layers according to the theory of Van Hiele.Also test the student's attitudes towards learning and difficulties encountered during the learning of Mathematics.So we can give some accurate measures to cultivate the students thinking ability.The current state of the geometrical thinking ability is: almost 11% of students are in the 1-level;23% of students are in the 2-level;56% of students are in the 3-level;8% of students are in the 4-level;only 2% of students are in the 5-level.So we can say that there is a great space to make up in the student's thinking ability in Hotan region.According to the result of survey,not only half of the students are in the third level but also the students have a wrong attitudes and motivation.It has also been found out that there are big problems in terms of learning method.The cultural background of student's family and society are two extra reasons for the result.Finally,according to the results of the survey and my teaching experience,I put forward some suggestions on how to cultivate the students' ability of spatial geometry thinking.
