Research On Information Behavior Of College Student Team For Mathematical Contest In Modeling

Since the 1960 s,the research of information behavior in team context or team information behavior has been receiving increasingly attention.As a result,a lot of research findings have emerged,and this field of study has been continuously deepened.In order to study collaborative information behavior in team context,the foreign and domestic scholars have carried out many empirical studies on the information searching,information using and information sharing of different types of team,such as military operations team,medical team,design team.And some theories and models of collaborative information behavior have been put forward.However,because of the influence of various factors on the information behavior in different team situations,the information behavior presents different characteristics and behavior patterns,therefore,for deepening the research,finding out the general characteristics and rules of the information behavior in the team context,it is necessary to have more researches on different types of team information activities.In this context,our research plans to explore the characteristics and rules of information behavior of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling.On the one hand theoretically,(1)the research we do could enrich the theory of information behavior in team context,on the other hand,from the point of practice,(2)it could help to provide a scientific guiding,from the perspective of information behavior,of mathematical modeling educating and innovation ability training for college students.In this study,we used qualitative research methods,including participant observation,in-depth interview,critical incident technique,to collect materials from 10 selected team samples,and the coding technology was used to classify,screen,sort and reorganizing the collected materials,then we obtained the research results ultimately with the analytic induction method proposed by Znaniecki.The results of this study are:(1)The information behavior of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling has its own general characteristics,such as,(1)The first selection is given to digital information,and information on paper is used only as supplement;(2)The professional database is the most important information source,and search engines are used frequently as a tool for information clue discovery;(3)Team knowledge structure is an indispensable information resource;(4)Professional database information retrieval is mainly based on keywords and full-text retrieval,and the ability of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling is poor;(5)The implementation model of team collaborative information search behavior is “communicating ? Search information individually ? communicating”;(6)Face to face communication is the main form of information interaction within the team.In addition,(7)in the process of information seeking of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling,the information encounter will bring surprises,which could be the key to solving the problem;(8)Information disorientation has become an obstacle to improve the efficiency of information search;(9)Information avoidance can effectively alleviate information anxiety.And(2)a process model of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling is established,and the process model includes 7 process factors: the problem domain,the internal and external information,information gap,information need,information searching,information using and managing,information interacting and sharing;And(3)on the basis of the theories of Organizational Behavior and Team Dynamics,an influencing factors model of information behavior of college student team for mathematical contest in modeling is developed,and the influencing factors include 7 topics: information technology,information resources,contest problems,team structure,team communication,team goals.
