This thesis explores the teaching of Chinese majors at Thai public secondary schools through questionnaires,literature research,and compare and contrast.The teaching of Chinese as a major has not been given proper attention.As a volunteer Chinese teacher at two different schools for two years in Thailand,The first being,Sa-nguan Ying School and the second Suratthani School.The author has found that Sa-nguan Ying School outperforms Suratthani School 2 in terms of Chinese teaching,particularly as a major.Therefore,the thesis attempts to analyze the huge difference between the two schools from two distinctive perspectives.The first perspective focuses on the teaching background,including society and school,the basic situation of schools,schools' attitude towards Chinese teaching.The curriculum setting and teaching resources are included in the latter part,while the second perspective concentrates on situations of teachers and students.In order to present a thorough study,the thesis refers to a large number of literature,and is designed into three questionnaires aiming at schools,teachers and students separately.The thesis conducts a comparative study on the factors that have an enormous impact on teaching of Chinese majors at Thai public secondary schools,concluding that:1.The popularity of Chinese culture is the major reason that affects Chinese teaching indifferent areas;2.The statues of Chinese subjects in school and the level of attention that schools pay toChinese activities also play an important role.3.How students are classified according to their quality and how teaching program areimplemented are important in evaluating course design.4.Whether students can be exposed to appropriate books is crucial in regards to teachingmaterials.5.The Teachers' teaching attitude and the teacher-student relationship are also significant.6.Students at two schools differ in their culture-type motivation rather than learningmotivation.After analyzing the factors mentioned above,this thesis puts forward some suggestions for the teaching of Chinese majors at Thai public secondary schools,hoping to benefit Chinese teaching at Thailand.
