Preview,one of the most important ways of cultivating autonomous learning ability,is getting wide attention in recent years.The effects of preview can’t be ignored for students in junior high schools while they are learning English.But in teaching practice,most English teachers invest lots of time in classroom instruction.They often ignore their teaching work before class.There are large classes in most junior high schools,and it’s very hard for teachers to concentrate on each student.And students have different learning abilities.So it is necessary for teachers to take English preview seriously and design English preview tasks scientifically.With the help of the preview task lists,teachers can help students to learn effectively.The purpose of this thesis is to solve the problems about preview tasks in the author’s school.There are mainly two research questions:What is the current situation of the design of English preview tasks and the use of task lists in Zichuan No.2 Junior High School? What should teachers in junior high schools pay attention to while they are designing preview tasks? The author mainly uses interviews and questionnaires to study the first question.In order to discuss the second research question,the author carries out an action research,in which there are three English teachers from one collective lesson preparation group and 88 students.After interviewing the teachers,the author finds that all the English teachers think it’s necessary to design effective preview tasks before teaching new knowledge,but most teachers devote limited time and energy to it.And some preview tasks even couldn’t match with the learning activities in class.All of these make preview meaningless.After the analysis on questionnaires,the author finds that 83% of the students could understand why they should preview.65% of the students say they don’t have enough time to preview.32% of the students say they don’t take interests in preview tasks.The results of the interview and the data show that there are still quite a few problems on the preview tasks.For these problems,the author works on the action research on preview tasks with the help of preview task list for one school year.The study has demonstrated some effective ways to design preview tasks.English teachers from junior high schools should pay attention to designing preview tasks after considering students’ levels of knowledge and their characteristics of study.At the same time,the research also provides suggestions for teachers,students and parents to help them solve the problems they may meet while they are designing preview tasks or using the preview task lists.The author hopes that the preview tasks and preview task lists can play their greatest role in helping students learn English more effectively.
