The Economic Analysis Of The Impact Of Population Structure On Crime Rate

Crime is a kind of anti-social behavior,violating the national people's property and disturbing the social order and public security which has brought great economic losses.Relevant theories of criminology pointed out that the population structure is an important factor affecting the crime.The existing research is mainly including the level of economic development,income gap between urban and rural areas,unemployment rate and education level.But except economic and social factors,people who decide quantity and regional distribution of crime.The research about how population structure influences China crime is relatively rare.This paper analysis of the status of China's population structure and the crime rate,we found that the unmarried men and women sex ratio exists serious imbalance,the proportion of young people were increased,people who have access to higher education and unemployment were increased,at the same time the crime rate has been rising.This paper uses a cost-benefit model to analyze the relationship between population structure and crime,we known natural population structure will affect the resources put into crime and the population structure of criminal society will affect the opportunity cost of the crime.With the current situation of population structure and crime rate in China,this paper selects 29 provincial panel data of China from 2002 to 2015 to study the impact of gender,age,education and unemployment on crime rate.The impact of different levels of education on crime is different and primary education does not significantly suppress the crime rate,while the development of higher education helps to reduce crime rate.Compared with female unemployment male unemployment's impact on the crime rate is more apparent.Therefore,in addition to developing economy and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural income gap,the government should promote gender structure and age structure of population balance,develop vocational education and pay attention to the unemployed and improve people's livelihood.
