The newly revised senior high school mathematics curriculum standard puts forward the concepts of mathematical core literacy, among which mathematical modelling literacy is one.The mathematical modelling competencies are determined from four aspects in the new curriculum standard, which are problem and situation, knowledge and skill, thought and expression, communication and reflection.Based on this, this paper aimed at refining the behavioral index on each level for the sub-competency of mathematical modeling competencies, and constructing a feasible assessment framework of senior high school students' mathematical modelling ability,as well as using this framework to research the current level and features of domestic senior high school students' mathematical modelling competencies. This paper used the mixed research method,a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including literature research, testing, interview and case study.First of all, with the study of documents, this paper sorted out the existing research, and laid the foundation for the construction of senior school students' mathematical modelling assessment framework. On the basis of the established modeling process and ability level framework, this paper designed the test paper used in this study. Then, this paper researched the mathematical modelling ability level of senior high school students by testing.Classroom observation was surveyed to understand the current situation of high school mathematics modelling teaching in China.Last, this study used interviews to understand their attitudes towards mathematical modelling. The results show that:(1)the suggestion presented in this study to analyze senior high school students' mathematical modeling competencies from three dimensions, which are content, structure, and level,is applicable.(2)The overall mathematical modelling competencies of senior high school students is low. They lack the knowledge of mathematical modelling and the sense of mathematics application, have a weak sense of mathematical symbol representation, and lack the consciousness of interpreting mathematical results and evaluating mathematical models in the process of modeling.
