A Study On The Development Process Of Ethnic Identity In The Hui Nationality's Youth

The national identity is an important problem that needs to be faced in the process of the growth of ethnic minority youth.This study adopts the qualitative research method,I have visit the Hui community of Hainan Sanya twice,and uses the process perspective to study the formation of ethnic identity With the development process,the impact of the key events on the individual and the impact of the resulting specific operational mechanism.this study bases on the theory of social identity,adopts the observation method,the formal interview method and the informal interview method to collect the important information needed in this study,and uses the situation analysis and the generic analysis to analyze the interview data.The main conclusions are as follows:First,the process of national identity is a continuous,dynamic process,it can be divided into three levels: enlightenment,differentiation and identity.The first stage – enlightenment.in this stage people owing to lacking of experience,prefect to accept the national education that from family and the community.Individuals have a preliminary awareness of national identity and produce intra-group preferences.The second stage – differentiation.in this stage With the improvement of the cognitive level,people began to contact other peoples and cultures,different experiences make the individual's own identity differentiated.the third stage —Identify.With the further improvement of individual age ?cognitive level and the understand of national cognition,people gradually balance the relationship between national identity and mainstream cultural identity,and obtain more stable national identity.Second,the process of ethnic identity development of the Hui people has its own characteristic: the identity is complex;its main foundation is the religious belief;The process of national identity development is accompanied by the process of cultural modernization.Third,the national identity is a part of social identity.Individuals through the categorization and social comparison,to achieve the national development of the various stages of identity.I wish that this study can arouse people to pay more attention to the process of national identity of scattered youth.And make efforts to do a good job of educating the national identity of the scattered youth.
