Distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation has become the norm in foreign first-class research university academic activities. In pursuit of being a world power armed with high technology,China puts forward measures to build the world's first class universities and disciplines, but in China distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation is still in a budding stage.Distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation is more about measuring level of cooperation between research institutions than the content of their independent studies, and it was a major index of scientific improvement of these institutions. Therefore, construction of the world first-class disciplines sould not neglect distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation situation in colleges and universities in China. This research is mainly by using UCINET 6.0 to investigates distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation of five universities from China and USA,Tsinghua University,Shanghai Jiaotong University,Tianjin University,MIT and UCB.By analysizing the the data produced by UCINET 6.0,especially by measuring several key elements of distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation, such as the number of production, researchers, and stability of cooperation, this essay attempts to find out how their networks of distant interdisciplinary academic cooperation are established and how much they are involved in their cooperation. There is a commonly recognized giant gap between Chinese universities and their counterparts in the USA,reasons for this are many.To bridge the gap,it needs the support from the state policy, universities funding, and reasonable governance to attract real talents.
