The Study Of Advancing Interdisciplinary Research In American Research Universities

The width and extent of the interdisciplinary research have become critical factors, which strongly promote creativity, especially breakthroughs in fundamental researches. Nowadays interdisciplinary researches are popularly applied to both technological and social problems. Research universities have rich human resource and diverse disciplines as an advantage to provide the foundation of interdisciplinary research.This thesis primarily focuses on interdisciplinary researches in the United States with quality and quantity analysis to study how researches are carried out involving multiple subjects. These experiences and ideas will serve future roadmap for research universities in China.After studying in research history, government policies, organization sponsorship, academic programs and administrative support, it is concluded that U.S. universities have positive external environment for interdisciplinary researches.
