Using reading strategies effectively plays a key role in the development of reading ability for senior high school students.This study aims to investigate what specific reading strategies students generally use while reading narratives and practical writings and whether there exist statistically significant difference in strategies using.The research investigates the students in Grade10,Ganzhou No.3 Middle School through questionnaires and interviews.The results reveal that narratives and practical writings do not exert much influence on strategy using.First,when reading narratives,the students mainly use "Selective Attention","Using the Context" and "transfer".As for practical writings reading,students mainly use "Selective Attention","Organization Advanced"and "transfer".Then,the reading strategies used by the students do not have statistically significant difference in terms of narratives and practical writings.The frequency of using reading strategies increases as the students' levels improve.Finally,the author also finds that the students do not have strong awareness of texts,and that they do not usually use reading strategies when they read a text.According to the students' cognitive characters and the goals of reading lessons,the author comes up with some suggestions.For example,teachers can use genre-based approach,change students' reading model and so on.
