English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(the experimental version in 2003)emphasizes that students learn from their interests and experience,and guides students to learn actively so as to inspire their active emotions and increase their interest in learning English.However,traditional English vocabulary teaching usually focuses on the delivering the message about words and meaning mechanically,and passive note-taking become a main learning task for the students.This leads to a serious result that students only remember the form of words but not knowing the comprehensive application of them.What's worse,it also reduces students' confidence and interest in learning English vocabulary due to the lack of attention.With the increasing popularity of"harmonious classroom",more and more people pay attention to the application of ecological teaching in education field,including English language teaching.Based on the principles of ecology,educational ecology is a study to analyze the mutual interaction and effect among different ecological factors according to various educational phenomena.And in order to construct ecological English teaching mode,many scholars have turned to research on English education teaching theories,therefore,the style of ecological English vocabulary classroom is on the rise.In this study,the research objects are English teachers and students from the 15th High School,the 18th High School,and Foreign Language High School in Fuzhou.Through data collecting and analysis from teachers' and students' questionnaires and interviews as well as classroom observation,this essay reveals the reality of English vocabulary teaching in Fuzhou high schools,and mainly focuses on discussing whether the ecological factors being developed in a state of harmonious and balanced in English vocabulary teaching such as classroom environment,teacher factors,student factors,teaching activities and so on.The result illustrates that both the teaching and the learning English vocabulary methods are relatively single,and it lacks an equal relationship between teachers and students in English classroom in Fuzhou high schools.Accordingly,the author tries to find out the reasons of this kind of imbalance.And based on the analysis and discussion,the author then provides referential suggestions on building an ecological senior English vocabulary classroom,namely,first of all,to insist and emphasize students' predominant status and teachers' guiding role;secondly,to carry out the interactive and effective teaching activities in classes;thirdly,to give the priority to large-scale class teaching,complemented with group study;fourthly,to emphasize on the diversity of method and the generation of classroom;lastly,focus on the diversity of evaluation in both subjects and methods.
