There is a fairly large proportion of foreign literary works in Chinese textbooks of middle school,especially foreign novels,For middle school students,the content and culture of foreign novels are different from the traditional Chinese cultural ideology.There are huge differences in the ways of thinking,social conditions,traditions and customs,and emotional pursuits and Chinese ways of thinking,social conditions,traditions and customs and emotional pursuits.It is because of these differences that middle school students should reinforce their learning of foreign novels and their understanding of the foreign ways of thinking as well as the complex humanity features.These are all very necessary in broadening middle school students’ horizons on understanding exotic cultures.Although the importance of teaching foreign works in middle school Chinese textbooks has been generally recognized,many issues in the teaching processes of foreign novels are waited to be discussed,such as the angles of teaching foreign novels,the introducing of foreign customs and traditions,the understanding of plots of foreign novels and the analyzing of the characters in foreign novels,and so on.In order to have a thorough understanding of the current situations of construing foreign novels and the customs and peoples behind these works in the middle school Chinese teaching,the author conducted a questionnaire research for teachers and students in the middle schools in the City of Anshan,Liaoning Province,to get a real picture of teaching foreign novels in the Chinese classes in the middle schools in the City of Anshan.The author also did an observation and a recording of about the teaching of a Chinese teacher who is famous in the Anshan.With these materials and the author’s own teaching experience,the author puts forward a scientific teaching plan--a plan construing foreign novels from the perspective of humanity and offering useful suggestions for the extant mode of analyzing foreign novels in the middle school Chinese classes.
