With the development of the research on English learning strategy at home and abroad,the research has gradually shifted its focus from undergraduate students to senior and junior students.For those special minorities,their learning strategies should be worthy of study and concerns.This thesis focuses on the current situation of Uyghur students' English learning strategies,investigating the problems existing in their learning strategies and analyzing the relevant internal and external influencing factors,and providing some feasible ways to cultivate their awareness of learning strategies and to improve their learning efficiency.This thesis chooses the No.5 Middle School in Hotan as an example,and selects students of Grade Seven and Grade Eight as the subjects of the study.This thesis gives an overview of the Uyghur students' status quo of using learning strategies and compares the differences between female and male students,students with high and low language proficiency,etc.by using questionnaire and interview.The findings are summarized as follows: 1.On the whole,the frequency of using learning strategies by Uyghur students is low and especially,the communication strategy;2.there exist differences in using the English learning strategies among the Uyghur students with different genders,ages,English levels.3.The internal and external factors have different effects on learning strategies.Based on the results of questionnaire and interview,the thesis puts forward some effective methods under the guidance of relevant theories.First,the state should optimize the allocation of resources,attach great importance to those minority students' English education and appeal to those young teachers to go to the remote areas.Second,English learning strategies should be one of the focuses in training English teachers.Third,teachers should select proper learning strategies,integrate teaching materials and design effective activities based on the students' needs.Fourth,Uyghur parents should pay more attention to their children's English learning and cooperate with schools and teachers actively.Finally,Uyghur students themselves should cultivate their awareness of learning strategies,monitor and reflect on their strategies continuously and also cultivate their own effective learning strategies.
