Most English teachers focus on the design of teaching rather than the studies of homework.Homework is an irreplaceable part of English teaching procedure.Not only will it offer chances for students to grasp what they have learned in class,but also it will have a good influence on their knowledge,abilities and attitude towards study.But there are also many problems when it comes to the design of the types or the content of homework.The author meant to studies principles and modes of designing homework which is based on theories and cases analysis,making it play a good part in teaching and learning.In order to make a good study of homework design in senior high school,this research,introduced Multiple intelligences,and Zone of Proximal Development into the English homework design and adopted such research methods as data studies,questionnaire survey,interview.Through the questionnaire on 280 students in Grade one and the interview several students of grade one in Chenzhou A middle school,the author think that there existed some problems in English homework.There was so much homework that students had to spend a lot of time finishing it.Besides,the type of homework was monotonous.In addition,the means teachers employed to assess homework were not reasonable.The author put forward the new assignment mode,that is the content of homework should be related to students’ practical life and arouse their interest,the level of difficulty should be proper just in order to deal with these issues.Besides,the type of homework was classified into two categories:basic knowledge/skill training homework,practical homework to ensure the variety of homework.To testify the effectiveness of the new assignment mode,the author made an empirical study within the class that her taught.In short,this research is meant to explore a scientific methods of designing high school English homework and come up with a idea of improving the quality of it to release students’ heavy burden,help students to arouse their interests in English learning,enhance their ability to learn and use English,cultivate their ability to innovate and cooperate,and foster students’ ability to use English appropriately.
