Academic communication,the process of innovating academic knowledge,plays an important role in improving postgraduate academic innovation ability.It is an important way to broaden the scope of knowledge,to cultivate innovative thought,and to improve the postgraduate comprehensive quality via academic communication activity.However,there exists many problems resulting in weaker innovative ability in the actual conduction of academic communication activity,such as,the poorer academic communication ability,the weaker effect of academic communication activities,the formalization of academic communication activity.Therefore,exploring how to cultivate postgraduate academic communication ability and how to effectly improve postgraduate innovative ability becomes an urgent and unsolved theoretical and practical issues.This paper,based on knowledge management theory,cooperative learning theory and multiple intelligence theory,defines the elements of postgraduate academic communication ability,the status of postgraduate academic communication ability and the problems existing in the process of training via literature method,questionnaire survey method and interview method.The reasons are mainly explored from postgraduate,postgraduate mentor and the form of academic communication activity,which results in the new idea of exploring a new form cultivating postgraduate academic communication ability.Toastmasters,with the perfect system and strong standardization of presentation and communication skills,is formed in 90 years of development process of Toastmasters Club.When applying Toastmasters into postgraduate academic communication,it means the activity is carried out by graduate that comes from similar discipline via the form of academic conference and the pattern of academic speech.Postgraduate Toastmasters has four characteristics.Firstly,it emphasizes the participation of postgraduate and provides various roles to play.Secondly,it supports various forms of education,such as postgraduateas communication interaction,postgraduate professional reporting interaction,and professional evalution interaction.Thirdly,it pays attention to immediate evaluation and gives postgraduate speech immediate feedback and evaluation.Fourthly,it provides professional education program for postgraduate to ensure that the postgraduate objectively participate in the meeting.Based on analyzing the characteristics of Postgraduate Toastmasters Model,Toastmasters is applied into academic communication with the purpose of improving postgraduate academic communication ability.
