Study On Influencing Factors Resulting In Irrational Expanding Education Consumption Behaviors Among College Students

Since the enlarged enrollment of institutions of higher learning in 1999,China has witnessed a soar in the number of college graduates,resulting in a salient job-hunting difficulty.To find a satisfying job in the labor market,hosts of college students have to resort to expanding education consumption: a variety of "Qualification Certificates",or further study for a master's degree so that their diploma level,human capital and competitiveness could be uplifted.Driven by the state policy orientation and employment pressure,the figure of college students availing themselves of expanding education consumption is on the rise;with the types of it diversifying,it has become an important expenditure item for college students' education consumption.But what is noteworthy is that some college students spend on expanding education out of irrational behaviors: quite a few students' choices for the expanding education consumption is but the outcome of following the trend,passive involvement of competition and influence from their parents' decisions.This irrational expansion of education consumption would not only squander a great deal of education resources,but also exacerbate the employment difficulties and reduce the study motivation and cultivation quality of students themselves.Rectification and ease of this irrational behavior in terms of expanding education consumption is based on the analysis of the influencing factors of their behaviors,and probing into the effect and mechanism that the factors work on them.Accordingly,exploratory strategies addressing the problem could be put forward.Through surveying and analyzing the expanding education consumption behaviors of students in Xihua Normal University and Southwest University,the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)the factors that affect college students' expanding education consumptions include personal,economic and social ones.Individual factors encompass unclear purposes for the extra education expenditures and conformist mentality;economic factors basically are the family economic condition and the cost on further study and qualification certificates;social factors,the employment pressure,parents' expectations and social trends.(2)Personal factors and social factors are positively correlated to college students' expanding education consumption behaviors,among which,the conformity mentality and the employment pressure have a striking repercussion on students' irrational consumption behaviors;while the economic factors are negatively correlated with college students' expanding education consumption behaviors,among which,the consumption cost on further degree and qualification certificates is notably related with students' irrational consumption behaviors.(3)The irrational behavior of some college students' expanding education consumption is seriously manifested in conformity mentality,passive choice and blind consumption.To rectify and remit this irrational behavior among college students,the following three solutions are recommended: first,individuals should optimize their consumption concept to cultivate a sound and rational consumption perception,approaching career planning,and enhancing the ability of rational consumption.Second,the government should establish a more mature competitive labor market to provide a favorable environment for college students' rational consumption.At the same time,it should standardize off-campus education training institutions for the sake of guarantee for students' expanding education consumption.Last but not the least,schools should put more weight on consumption education,families provide a better consumption guidance,and society improve the consumption environment.Only family,school and society are synergized can students' irrational behaviors be rectified and remitted.
