The textbooks designed and written according to the curriculum standards is an important text resource in order to guide teachers and students to carry out teaching and learning activities.In the context of the education reform and the implementing quality education,the comparison different editions of the same subject in basic education is an important component of the textbooks research and education theory research,which has important research value.The purpose of this study is to highlight the structural features of the textbooks by comparing the structure of textbooks for the 8th grade “Biology” published by PEP(People's Education Press)and Jinan Press.In order to making the whole study more rigorous and better evaluating its fit with the curriculum standard,the content of the two editions is compared with that of the curriculum standard by class difficulty model(N=? G?T+(1-?)S?T)for quantitative analysis,and the combined of qualitative research and quantitative research.Columns and experiments are an important part of the biology textbooks.The columns and experimental parts of the two editions of the textbooks are compared to highlight the overall writing characteristics of the textbooks.The significance of this study lies in three aspects.The first is to provide guidance for later comparative studies on the two editions of textbooks.The second is to combine textbooks and curriculum standards to make the entire study more rigorous.The third is to better guide biology teaching practice so that teachers can grasp and use teaching materials more accurately and promote the development of students.The fourth is to provide reference and suggestions for the revision and preparation of the next two editions of textbooks,and to provide reference for educators to select textbooks suitable for the region.The main research methods adopted in this paper are literature method,comparative study method and questionnaire survey method.A lot of firsthand information was obtained by the questionnaire survey sent to 226 eighth graders and 8 biology teachers in Zaozhuang15 middle school,and 224 eighth graders and 9 biology teachers in Liaocheng Shuichengmiddle school,for which provides the basis for the comparing the two editions and the writing this paper.Through the comparison of the textbooks,it is found that the PEP and Jinan Press of biology textbooks in the eighth grade includes the directory,unit,chapter and section in the structure,respectively,and exercises was set at back of each section for evaluating the education quality.In terms of content,the curriculum difficulty of the two editions of textbooks is higher than that of the curriculum standards;both pay attention to the connection with the actual life in order to arouse students' interest in learning biology;both editions of the textbooks have insufficient emphasis on experimental safety.Through the comparison of the characteristics of the two editions of textbooks,it is found that: First,the content of the textbooks of the People's Education Press is more systematic,which is conducive to students' formation of a knowledge system.The content of the Jinan Press textbooks is richer,the convergence between the knowledge is better,and the course capacity is relatively large,which may increase the students' academic burden.Second,the types and numbers of exercises after the People's Education Press are more abundant,but their depth is not enough,which is not conducive to improving students' abilities.There are a small number of textbook exercises in Jinan Press,but the problem is open,which is conducive to students' ability to analyze and solve problems.Third,the types of columns in the PEP textbooks are rich,but some of them have overlapping roles;Jinan Press has fewer columns,but the division of labor in each column is relatively clear,which is conducive to students' mastery of teaching content.Fourth,the number of experiments in the textbooks of the People's Education Press is relatively small,but the guidance of the content is strong and it is easy to inspire students to think.The number of experiments in the Jinan Press of textbooks is large,which helps students to exercise experimental skills,but the experiment is difficult.
