In the early 1980 s,China started to explore the theoretical knowledge of imagery training and conducted practical researches on imagery training. In the ongoing researches, the researchers of imagery training pay more attention to study the role of some intermediate variables or adjustments in imagery training, such as different imagery training methods, application models, and individual imagery capabilities.By analyzing the previous literature on internal-external imagery training,we found some contradictions in the current researches. Some scholars have experimentally proved that the effect of external imagery training used by beginners on skill learning is better than that of internal imagery training for closed-action skills, such as basketball,fixed-point shooting in that there is a significant difference in athletic performance. While the uses of internal imagery training for skilled students are more effective than external imagery training on skill learning. However, some scholars have done similar experimental studies and some inconsistent conclusions are made.Their experimental results show that the use of internal imagery training for skilled person has no better effect on skill learning than external imagery training,as there is no significant difference in athletic performance. The reasons for the conflict may be related to the learners' proficiency in the skills.Besides, other studies show that the use of imagery training or internal-external imagery training has little effect on the performance of throwing darts or squash sports. For this phenomenon, some scholars believe that the effect of appearance training may be related to different sports, that is,a certain type of imagery training may only be suitable for part ofthe sports or a certain type of motor skills. It is inferred that different sports items or different motor skills are also important factors influencing the internal-external imagery training, and the research on the internal-external representation training for open-motion skills in China is quite few.In view of this situation, this study selected badminton as the sport item, and further selected the forehand ball and forehand backcourt highball as the open action skills, backhand serve and forehand serve as closed action skills,in order to examine the effect of internal-external imagery training on the learning of different motor skills of badminton. This study randomly selected three classes in the 2016 public badminton courses at Taiyuan University of Technology as the experimental subjects. The three classes were randomly assigned in which the class 7 was selected as the control group and taught with general teaching methods. The class 3 was selected as the first experimental group and taught with external representation training combined with general teaching methods for 32 teaching hours. And the class 4 was selected as second experimental group and taught with internal representation combined with general teaching methods for 32 teaching hours.Firstly, methods of questionnaires and general physical fitness tests were used to test the individual's imagery and physical fitness, and the scores after the test were screened to ensure that there was no significant difference between the individual imagery ability and the general physical quality of the students before the experiment.Herein, students without special badminton skills for learning and training are thought as beginners, thus there is needless to test their badminton special skills.Secondly, using a different teaching method, the students in the experimental group and the control group were taught for one semester of badminton. Finally, the data after the experiment was analyzed and summarized. The result is as follows:(1)In terms of physical fitness, the three training programs can significantly improve students' physical fitness in each group, and there is no difference in the effects.(2)In the aspect of imagery ability, the visual and mental imagery abilities of students in the individual imagery ability of the experimental group 1 were significantly improved. The experimental group 2showed a significant improvement in the students' individual imagery ability in the motion perception imagery. When performing presentations, theexperimental group 1 was more focused on the external imagery training;however, more focus was on the use of internal imagery training in the second experimental group 2.(3)Comparing the experimental athletic performance of the experimental group 1,group 2 and the control group, finally conclusions are made that whether for the closed or open motor skills in the badminton sports, external imagery training combined with general teaching methods is superior to internal representation training combined with general teaching methods for beginners.
