Wang Gongbi was a renowned Chinese educator,professor and good friend of Chinese Communist Party in the Republic of China mainland era.As a pioneer,Wang devoted himself to the revolution and construction of modern China.He always concentrated on academic research,and put the results of the research into practice.When he was young,Wang took part in the unified group Tongmenghui,where under the leadership of Sun Yat-sen he was eager to made efforts to push the revolution activities at that time.After the May 4th Movement,he followed many of the revolutionary youths' footsteps to go to the factories and villages in order to discover the road of the combination of workers and peasants.In 1920,Wang decided to stay in villages.With the experiences he was getting in villages,he opened the first local youth public school,through which he tried to find a way of reforming the Chinese society and saving the nation.The youth public school was influential at home and abroad at that time,and was seen as the innovator of the rural education in Henan province.Wang Gongbi is referred to as the first explorer and pioneer of Chinese rural education,and the first educator who took up the rural autonomy construction.This paper is arranged into five parts.In perspective of rural autonomy,the paper seeks to study the background and practice,followed with the thought of rural education and how to put it into practice.The first part is introduction which presents Wang Gongbi's research of rural education and the the reason of topics of origins,the significance of the research synthesis and the innovation of this paper.Research methods are briefly summarized.The second part is organized into four chapters.The second chapter presents the background when Wang carried out his rural autonomy,including the influence of New Village Idea at abroad,the cultural background of ancient rural autonomy,as well as the local self-government practice with which the constitution at the end of Qing dynasty was well-suited.The rural autonomy in Zhai city,Hebei province,Sun Yat-sen's local self-government thought,the influence of New Culture Movement and the situation of society and villages at time are also involved in consideration.The third chapter demonstrates Wang's rural autonomy practice with respect of politics,economy and culture.The practice politically established a new form of rural autonomy,economically reform the mode of production and developed the reduction of rent and interest,and culturally opened the youth public school.The fourth chapter mainly introduces what exactly Wang dealt with the thought and practice of rural autonomy,which involved focusing the attention to preschool education,children education,normal education,the education of nationalism.Universal education and compulsory education all around the country were suggested.Wang also emphasized the importance of the combination of education and productive labor.The fifth chapter provides a generalization of the inspiration for our current rural education by means of the research of Wang's rural education.The third part is the conclusion of this paper,which provides a summary of the ideas and points of views mentioned in the paper.
