The Research On Liaoning Province Crops Virtual Water Trade

In China's northeast Provinces, Liaoning is the most southerly one, and it is one of the heavy industrial base of China.In recent years, Liaoning made a great contribution to China's economic growth because of the stable development.But because of spatial and temporal distribution and the increasing population pressure, Liaoning is facing serious water challenges.How to ensure the safety of water resources in Liaoning province and the food security, is the important strategic problem of sustainable development to maintain the province economic and ecological.The concept of virtual water was proposed in 1990 s to solve the water safety problem. Since it was proposed, the concept has been studied and widely recognized. People usually rely on engineering and technical means to solve water, “virtual water” lift the problem to an economic method. That is, water deficient regions or countries can import water resource intensive products from water rich regions or countries to save water resources, and ultimately solve the problem of water shortage.Nowadays, this method has been to one of the improve the utilization of water resources and ensure the water security in water shortage area.This paper mainly based on virtual water and virtual water trade theory, we wil calculate the amount of virtual water and analyze the structure of crops virtual water trade in Liaoning province with the help of CROPWAT software recommended by FAO. Through the research, we find that Liaoning is the virtual water import province, consistent with the virtual water trade strategy.However, the province is too dependent on the imports of soybean, it led that the virtual water trade structure is too single, and not good to the sustainable development of economy and ecology.Finally we put forward relevant suggestions on the development of virtual water trade in Liaoning province according to the conclusions.
