Research On Conflict Management Of The Stakeholders In NG Pipe Network Project

Conflict is a phenomenon in social behavior of individuals, groups or organizations, unavoidably and commonly exists in various social fields. In the field of engineering management, because of the unique feature of the engineering project, any kind of conflict may easily come forth among the internal and external stakeholders of a project. Nowadays, people pays more attention on conflict management than before, which has also become the focus of research and study by more and more scholars and experts in engineering management practice field.The dissertation mainly consists of three parts. Firstly, based on the study of related literatures, we reviewed project stakeholders management and conflict management theories, and defined the concept, the classification, and management theory for both project stakeholders and conflict focusing on the whole project life cycle. Secondly, with the using of expert judgment method and factor analysis method, a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis is carried out against all the conflicts that are identified in the all periods of the entire life cycle of project. The analysis result demonstrates that the influencing factors of conflicts are correlated with the conflict intensity, which is the basis of project stakeholders' conflict management theory. Thirdly, a strategy based on the research of the conflict management method is proposed for the management of conflicts in different sources, environment, stakeholders and periods of project life cycle. The strategy is demonstrated and validated by a case study on a natural gas pipeline project. On the basis of the conflict management strategy, the conflict management mechanism and framework covering all management levels from the top to the bottom was built and carried out for the management of all the conflicts among the project stakeholders. With the great support from the project management, we received a good feedback on effectiveness of the conflict management.The research of this thesis aims to establish a complete set of conflict management system for project stakeholders, which can be served as a theoretical guide for project management personnel.
