Research On The Conflict Processing Mechanism Among Construction Project Stakeholders

After more than half a century of development, project management has becomeincreasingly mature. The success of the project not only relies on the management level ofthe project manager, but needs the support and participation of the stakeholders. But in thereal environment, they require and expect differently to the project because of their variousinterests. There are conflicts and contradictions between them. Because of the longinvestment cycle of construction project and the huge organization structure, therelationships between stakeholders are very complex. Conflicts and contradictions arelikely to happen. The ability of the project manager to deal with these conflicts is directlyrelated to the successful implementation and the quality and cost of the project. Then theywill influent the schedule of the project. To deal with the conflicts correctly can makewhole project and organization realize the sustainable development. Therefore, conflictprocessing mechanism should be established to prevent and control some conflicts throughsome positive measures, at the same time, to deal with the conflicts reasonably when theyhappen. If the conflicts can not be resolved, they will cause friction between the projectstakeholders and the inefficiency of the project. So solving the conflicts between theproject stakeholders effectively can guarantee the success of the project.According to the stakeholder theory, this paper defines the concept and classificationof project stakeholders, and analyses the interests of all stakeholder. Then according to theconflict management theory, the paper discusses the cause and characteristics andclassification of the conflicts among project stakeholders. On the basis of the cause andcharacteristics of the conflicts, the author puts forward how to prevent conflicts and furtherresearches how to deal with them. Then the stakeholder conflicts processing model is built.Finally, A museum relocation project is used to discuss the application of the model.This paper connects the stakeholder theory with the conflict theory, and then analysesthem with the attribution theory. It deepens the stakeholder theory and conflictmanagement theory and expands the application scope of attribution theory. It builds theconflict processing model based on the attribution theory and puts forward some practicalconflict solutions, and provides decision methods combined with the case of projectconflict management.
