A Theoretical And Empirical Study On The Influence Of Import Technology Transfer,Institutions On Export Sophistication

After the global financial crisis, China's open economic development is not only facing increasingly severe resource and environmental factors as well as continued high cost and other internal constraints, are also facing lack of external demand, trade protectionism, increasing global economic instability and other external constraints.In this context, China's 12th Five-Year Plan as noted:To improve China's export products, technical content and added value, accelerate the transformation of foreign trade growth, guide the industry to extend the value chain. Therefore, how to improve the technical complexity of Chinese exports, in order to seek China's new status in the global division of labor, has become a important issue for the theory and practice sectors.Firstly, based on the Heterogeneous Firms theory and binary method,this paper analyze the mechanism of imported technology spillover,institution affect export sophistication,import technology spillover,institution affect the export behavior of enterprises thus export margin by lowering export "adjustment costs",then export margin's change cause the changes of export sophistication,especially for high-tech products, and high-tech product's growth in scale lead to the increase of a country's exports sophistication. Then this paper measures the export sophistication index by EXPY model, measures institutional quality index by principal component analysis,measures imported technology overflow by CH model taking heterogeneous knowledge sources into consideration.Measurement results showed that the overall export sophistication present deepening trend, there is a obvious gaps between developed and developing countries in institution quality,high-tech industry and high-tech industry are the main carrier of imported technology spillovers. Then taking advantage of the 43 countries 1997-2011 multinational panel data, this paper have done an empirical test by using system GMM method.The results show:total imported technology spillover effect is more prominent in promoting exports complexity of developing countries. Imported technologies from different industries spillover has different impact on different types of national export technical complexity. Institution effect is more prominent in promoting exports complexity of developed countries.The cross-term of Institution and imported technology spillover has significantly effect on export sophistication.Finally,appropriate policy proposed based on empirical results: moderately expanded the scale of imports,optimized the structure of import commodity;strengthen the institution construction, improve the institutional environment and so on.
