The injection mold is one type of important equipment in the modern manufacturing technology. The formulation and decision of the mold price seems a double-edged sword. It is crucial for business to survival: Overpricing leads to reduced orders and lose customer; underpriced leads to difficulties of profit making and manufacturing risks. Most of the molds enterprises are focusing of mold costing currently, the enterprise utilize the certain internal and external factors to quote the reasonable mold price for surviving in this competitive environment.This article used injection mold as the research object. Firstly, it reviewed the research of mold price which is produced by domestic and foreign scholars. To get clear about mold price estimation and decision which is based on man-hours method is the research emphasis of this article. Then, it sort out the basic cost elements of manufacturing process by summarizing the typical manufacturing process, characteristics and structure of injection mold. After that, it integrated common method of product pricing with classification of mold quotation. Based on that, it further clarified the research ideas of this article: Using mark-up pricing estimation and decision which based on man-hours method to solve the mold quotation issues. Then, it combined calculation formula of cost mark-up method with mold manufacturing process. It determined the basic framework which is used to improve future cost estimation issues. Based on corporation actual cost data, this article made comparison between the quotation which is related to cost data and actual cost. It analyzed the major uncertainties which existed in the cost estimation process. Besides that, it classified the cost drivers by using fish bone analysis. Then we can determine the key factors which influence cost. Then, it proposed the cost estimation model by considering environment of corporation itself. This model used man-hours cost estimation as a core; it improved the cost estimation method of whole mold manufacturing process. On top of formulating a detailed mold pricing estimation method, it verified the estimation method by researching the actual mold quotation information of Hewlett-Packard(HP). In the end, it assessed cost estimation volatility, profit or loss rate, quotation response rate and economic value of this method by using data after improvement. Objectively, it reflected that this method bring benefit to cost estimation. Meanwhile, it brought a few improvement suggestions for research:(1) It sorts out the cost elements of mold manufacturing process in detail.(2) It established a mold cost estimate model which is adapted in thecurrent competitive environment. By drawing up seven big estimationmodules, it is able to convert pricing estimation method which isguided by traditional human experience into formula calculationwhich is based on quantitative data.(3) Through integration of large number of formulas, it realizes ComputerAutomated Quotation. The system has a low-cost, high-efficiencyeconomic value.(4) By improving estimation methods, it controlled cost estimationvolatility in range of ±10%.The number of orders increased by 20%.This shows the mold pricing method which based on man-hours cost mark-up estimation is able to resolve actual management issues of quotation difficulties. It reduced the original estimation fluctuations. It also controlled operation risks of mold manufacturer effectively.
