| In the process of the development of the self-competition, the urban space has its own organization, which is closely related to the local economic development and cultural background. The development of a city cannot be separated from the development of urban space, the development of urban space is boosted by the joined growth of economic construction, cultural construction and ecological construction. Xinghua, in Jiangsu province, has a long history and rich culture. The East Door of Historical District has the local features most, and is commonly known as Golden East Door. This district preserves a large number of typical Jiangnan courtyard style house buildings that were built at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, forming a unique historical district landscape. The development of the East Gate historical district in Xinghua city is more inclined to self-organization without external intervention, and the residents play the leading role in the development of the whole space. This paper adopts two ways of research includes historical and qualitative, the view of research changes from the macro-narration for the object of study in past and present to pay attention to the daily life of ordinary people for purpose of making in-depth investigation. Besides, this paper turns the observed result into research basis through applying two research ways--Inductive deduction and comprehensive study, then to integrate landscape values and problems existed in East Gate historical block since it has been organized up to now.As a city with typical Jiangnan style, Xinghua’s historic district has unique landscape value, including the living landscape, street landscape, folk cultural landscape and so on. Since the completion of the landscapes in the 20th century, they have been in the state of self-organization.Problems left over by such state have become more and more common. Most of the landscapes have a series of problems in the decline of quality, the inappropriate combination between old and new buildings, the disorder environment of the street, the backward public facilities and so on.Behind these problems, there are deep problems hidden, such as unclear property rights, lack of management and lack of funds.Under such problems, both the protection and the development of the whole historic district need melt to the framework of re-update: to enhance the protective consciousness of the historic district and its culture; to partially tune and reconstruct the present landscape situation in the form of expanding, to renew the district; to integrate the resources of the existing landscape, and to rebuild, demolish and reconstruct the landscape under the principle of re-update; to protect the cultural landscape of the district, and the cultural value which are embodied in the landscape. As the main research results of updating the entire design process, the self-organization mechanism can not only effectively improve the ability to advance self-development and solve their own problems, but also cultivate the spirit of mutual help and self-help to community residents. Finally,it is necessary to combine self-organization mechanism with community macro regulation and administrative management of the local government to follows its position, and eventually establish "harmony in order," to realize the modernization of the historic district. |
