The course of Introduction to Chinese Traditional Music (or Introduction to Chinese National Folk Music or Chinese National Music) was first introduced to Chinese higher education institutions after the establishment of the Republic of China. During the over 60 years development, the understanding and teaching of this course have gone through many changes. Many more new questions and concepts are still arising from the background of globlization. This essay focuses on the teaching of Introduction to Chinese Traditional Music in 4 schools of music in higher education institutions in Nanjing. After interviews of the professors and administrative heads the schools, the eassy makes an analysis of the current situation against the background of globalization.The essay consists of 4 parts. The Introduction part reviews the background information and the starting of the idea of writing this essay. The First Chapter examines the history of the teaching of Introduction of Chinese Traditional Music in professional music education. The Second Chapter presents the interviews of the teachers in the 4 schools, anlysis the situation in the schools and raises a few suggestions to improve that. And the Third Chapter introduces some new challenges of the teaching of traditional music in higher education institutions.
