In this paper, it makes descriptions on the cultural inheritance function in music education which revealing the role of school music education in the cultural inheritance. In this paper, it makes separate descriptions on the status of China and Japan these two countries'traditional music culture in the field of music education. It conducts comparison from multiple perspectives:The educational concepts of school musical education, music teaching syllabus and music teaching materials. Finally, it focuses on the problems which are faced by China during the process of music education, learns from excellent achievements of music education in Japan, combines with Chinese specific national conditions, and makes analysis and recommendations on the cultural inheritance of Chinese traditional music culture and how to improve the approaches of traditional music education and other related issues. It puts forward the important roles of government and schools in the cultural inheritance works; also it makes forecasts on how to better conduct cultural heritage issues of traditional music culture.
