The Combination Of "washing" In Ancient Chinese Was Investigated Over Time

The study of common words is an important part of the history of Chinese language vocabulary. We try to research syntagmatic relations of the word "xi"(?) in the ancient Chinese language by diachronic comparison and synchronic comparison.By the research,we have a comprehensive acquaintance of the history of the word "xi"(?) and its relevant words. We know sources and formations of the syntagmatic relations of the word "xi" (?) in the modern Chinese language.We lay stress on substitution relation when study syntagmatic relations of "xi"(?).We study the development of the concepts in washing and find out the time and the reasons that they were replaced. We judge the substitution by syntagmatic relations and the spoken language's degree of linguistic datas.Besides,we also get our judgement when calculate the number of each syntagmatic relation.The diachronic study also need synchronic comparison.We study the various combination of the word "xi" (?) by synchronic comparison and find that although "xi" (?) got the meaning of washing in the earlier time,the development of each combination is not consistent.For examble, "xi"(?) hands" is the main expression of washing hands in the spoken language from Eastern Jin Dynasty while "xi"(?) foot"get the same status untile the Ming Dynasty.Although the developmental process are different,in general,those combinations of the word "xi" (?) all got great development in the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties and the Tang and the Song dynasties.The reasons maybe relative to the semantic development of the word "xi" (?) and the spread of Buddhism and the cultural integration.Even the same combination of the word "xi" (?) has difference in the synchronic comparison.For example,we find some differences in dialects while others in the classical Chinese language and the spoken Chinese language.Due to the extension of semantic meaning,the word "xi" (?) gets the meaning of washing.Futhermore,we have a idea that we recognize the above-mentioned idea,however,the process was accelerated when the word "xi" (?) made use of the sematic meaning of the word "sa" (?).Therefore,the word "xi" (?) is used to describle the washing procee of body and it get new combinations.Eventually become the leading word of the washing semantic field.
