The quality of interpersonal relations of high school students has a great influence on their development of social skills, self-awareness, academic achievements and mental health. Hopefully, in carrying out sand play therapy, we offer a new perspective for school mental health education. Our research aims at finding out how sand play therapy can play its positive role and the mechanism of influence. Through questionnaires we first selected 16 senior one students, all meeting demands for our experiments, who then were paired into different control groups and put under sand play intervention in eight sections. Deep level explanation and illustration were conducted of the experiment results by way of analysis of qualitative materials, including both the observation of the researchers and the feedback of the subject students. The main outcomes of the research are as follows:1. Analysis of statistics shows that sand play affects all four dimensions of students'interpersonal relations, with interpersonal and inter-sex communications rising to the 0.05 level, with mutual conversation and total score reaching the 0.01 level, all of which proves that sand play has the most influences on high school students'adaptation, interpersonal conversation and total score.2. Analysis of qualitative materials indicates that sand play can considerably improve interpersonal relations among students, help them in the relaxing environment to release negative feelings that build up inside them, and arouse the individual's self-healing power and therefore strengthen his ability to face reality.
