This thesis is a Chinese-English consecutive interpreting practice report, which describes a consecutive interpreting task the author did for a story-telling activity. The author's work helps the speaker and the audience to communicate effectively, but flaws and deficiencies must exist during the interaction. The interpreting process is recorded, transcribed, and is reviewed from preparation, case study and introspection. The author analyzes three typical cases, namely, the translation of expressions with Chinese characteristics, omission and misinterpreting due to information overload,as well as disfluency caused by excessive nervousness.Meanwhile corresponding solutions are also put forward based on four strategies, which are domestication and foreignization, appropriate simplification, sentence restructuring, and “four essentials of interpreting” proposed by Lin Chaolun. In the end, conclusions are drawn that interpreters should be well-prepared,and should enhance abilities of short-term memory and public speaking.
