Research On The Needs Of Mobile Chinese Teaching Topics

With the social progress,the rapid development of Internet technology and the popularity of smart phones,mobile-learning has come into being.In the field of mobile-learning for Chinese as a foreign language,based on the theory of mobile learning,the theory of teaching topics and the theory of needs analysis of language-learners,this paper,through the literature research,questionnaire survey,the comparison of two surveys and case studies,takes the important organizational form of teaching Chinese as a foreign language——the topic as the core of the demand analysis research.The issuance and collection of the questionnaire have been carried out on the web.In this study,107 Chinese-leaners have filled in the need-analysis survey,which concludes three aspects:topics needs for learning Chinese,target needs and study needs for learning Chinese,needs of Chinese mobile learning.Their views have been analyzed from the perspectives of gender,age,nationality,how long they have learned Chinese and Chinese-language proficiency.The author of this research did a study over Chinese mobile-learning needs based on intelligent terminal in May of 2016.The reasons why the author carried on the second Chinese-learning needs analysis on a mobile are that,compared with the previous survey,1.the theoretical basis and content of the surveys are different;2.the classifications of topics in the two researches are different;3.research methods are different;4.the numbers of subjects are different.It can be found from this research that in terms of the Chinese-learners'topic needs,(1)Chinese learners prefer Chinese courses arranged by topics(33.6%)to Chinese course arranged by situations(30.8%)or textbooks(26.2%).(2)The six most popular topics among Chinese-learners are daily life(65.4%)>culture and entertainment(55.1%)>social interactions and social relationships(51.4%)>language and culture(50.5%)>education(43%)>tourism and transportation(42.1%).(3)Female subjects are more interested in topics of emotions and attitudes,social interactions and social relationships,family life and so on.While male subjects are more interested in topics of personal information,literature and art,politics and so on.(4)Subjects of 12—14 years old are more interested in topics of literature and art,science and technology,plants and animals.While Subjects of 18—30 years old are more interested in other listed topics.(5)Compared with Asian and European subjects,American subjects are more interested in topics of festivals,literature and art,politics,history and geography,science and technology,education.Compared with American and European subjects,Asian subjects are more interested in topics of personal information,emotions and attitudes,social interactions and social relationships and so on.(6)Subjects having learned Chinese for two or less than two years are more interested in topics of personal information,daily life,school life.While subjects having learned Chinese for more than two years are more interested in topics of tourism and transportation.(7)Compared with subjects having higher level in Chinese proficiency,subjects of pre-intermediate or lower level in Chinese are more interested in topics of social interactions and social relationships,literature and art,science and technology,education.(8)By comparing the survey results of the topic needs in the two surveys,it can be found that except for "travel and transportation" and "hot topics",there is little difference in the degree of interest in the similar subjects in the two surveys.In addition,the research has taken Chinese Skill,a Chinese mobile-learning application,which is frequently used by subjects and provides courses by topics,as an example to analyze whether the topic classifications of Chinese mobile-learning applications on the market are consistent with results of this topic demand research,and whether they meets the needs of Chinese learners.Through the comparative analysis,it can be found that the topic classification of Chinese Skill is basically in line with the needs of Chinese learners.But the topic category of Chinese Skill is still to be added,in order to summarize more aspects.
