From the aspect of social phonetics,etiquette is a kind of communicative competence,and at the same time,it is a rule naturally formed in the process of social communication.Each country,as different social communities has its own etiquette culture.To ensure smooth communication,it is essential to understand the local etiquette culture of target language country when people use its language to communicate,and this is a key evidence of mastering a language.If the output of second language is conducted by thinking pattern of the first language,everything might be not so appropriate.Thus,it is urgent and important to pay attention to Chinese etiquette culture for the Chinese-language learners.Compared to other Asian countries,there is a great difference between western etiquette culture and Chinese etiquette culture.Taking American and Chinese etiquette culture as a starting point,and American and Chinese linguistic and non-linguistic etiquette culture as point cut,this paper analyzes and contrasts the differences between etiquette culture of China and the United States.What's more,it indicates the deficiencies and shortages in cultural teaching of TCFL,and puts forward some countermeasures for American students,represented for western Chinese-language learners.There are four parts in this paper.In the first part,the teaching of Chinese etiquette culture is defined and the importance of Chinese etiquette teaching is pointed out.In the second part,the author summarizes the main barrier of learning Chinese etiquette to American students.From the different aspects of language,culture and teaching,the reason why it is difficult for American students to learn Chinese etiquette culture can be found.Through this way,we can suit the remedy to the case,and control arrange a target-oriented teaching method to American students.When it comes to the third part of this paper,the writer records the detailed differences of Chinese and American etiquette culture by field trip,interview and investigation.Through real case analysis,the failure of cross-cultural communication,which caused by different etiquette culture,is also demonstrated.Therefore,the writer highlights the importance of cultural teaching in the teaching of Chinese etiquette culture so as to arouse people's attention and concern.In the fourth part of this paper,through the questionnaire designed by the author,the necessity of learning Chinese etiquette culture is being emphasized.According to the existing problems of etiquette teaching in TCFL,the author provides some suggestions and thoughts on the teaching of etiquette culture from the perspectives of teaching strategies and teaching methods.
