A Translation Report For Yiwu Municipal Government Work Report 2015(GWR)

Since the adoption of reform and opening up policy,Yiwu has adhered to the strategy of prospering the commerce.Focusing on the market,the city vigorously promotes industrialization and internationalization,balances the urban and rural development,and has founded a road with regional characteristics.In recent years,Yiwu has made comprehensive reform of international trade as the experimental unit,and has done a good job in economic transformation and development,which contributes to economic stability and social harmony.2015 is a year of opportunity for Yiwu City to open up.With the implementation of national strategies such as the “Belt and Road” initiative,Yiwu is in a much more favorable location to carry out external cooperation and internationalization.2015 Yiwu Municipal Government Work Report(GWR)reviews work in the last year and makes work plan for the coming year,and it covers aspects of politic,economy,culture,education,social life and so on,providing a way for people to learn about the overall social situation in Yiwu.Conversely,the C-E translation of 2015 Yiwu Municipal Government Work Report(GWR)is a kind of propaganda to publicize Yiwu to the outside world.Because of this,the author chooses it as the translation task and prepares for it,does the translation and proofreading with the help of her tutor,hoping to be of service for Yiwu's overseas-targeted publicity.The GWR is a political document with concise language,objective content and rich political terms.Overall,it is politically orientated,so the translation of GWR need to follow the principle of accuracy and should reproduce faithfully the original content.This translation report is consisted of five parts.The first part is introduction,which mainly provides information about the background,purpose and significance of the task.The second part is task description,whose main contents are source of the task,source-text analysis and requirement for the task.The third part is process description,including pre-task preparation,translation and post-translation revision.The fourth part,main part of the report,is the case study.In this part,the author introduces difficulties in translation from three levels: the lexical level,the syntactic level and the textual level;these difficulties could be the translation of numerical abbreviation,category words,intensifiers;the translation of non-subject sentences and bamboo-like sentence structure;and the translation of reference,conjunction and reiteration.Along with cases describing these difficulties,the author also introduces different translation strategies.For example,to translate numerical abbreviation,the strategies of literal translation,literal translation plus explanation,and free translation can be used.In the last part,it shares some experience and makes a summary for the deficiency of the translation.
