As a synchronous and efficient interpretation mode, simultaneous interpreting(SI)is a complex cognitive activity of human brain and mind. Therefore, interpreters need to use some feasible strategies to complete SI task successfully.Syntactic linearity strategy is known as the "golden strategy" of SI.The purpose of the present study is to reveal how this method is applied in solving the common problems in the process of simultaneous interpreting.Based on the theory of Gile's Effort Model, the definition and characteristics of simultaneous interpreting are briefly introduced,in combination with the procedure of applying syntactic linearity strategy, the feasibility and necessity of using syntactic linearity strategy are explained as well. Then considering the differences in the language structure of English and Chinese, the present research analyzes the causes of chaotic interpreting rhythm, mistakes, omissions and incoherence in interpretation.Suggestions considering syntactic linearity strategies such as chunking, adding, repetition and simplification are provided at the end of the present study. The simulation SI practice is based on TED speech Why Brexit Happened and What to Do Next.
