Research On The Intelligence Work Of The Eighth Route Army In Shanghai During The Anti-Japanese War (1937-1939)

Know the enemy and know yourself,and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat. It was self-evident that the intelligence work was important in the Chinese revolutionary struggle in the course of the practice of the Chinese revolutionary road. The intelligence work of the Eight Route Army Office led by the Communist Party was productive during the period of the war of Resistance Against Japan, which made a great contribution to the victory of Anti-Japanese War. Shanghai is the economic center in modern China. And it was also an important city in the history of the Chinese intelligence, which was occupied an important position.Because of the concealment of intelligence work and the exiguity of the archives, the relevant research was very difficult to implement. What's more,the intelligence work in the war of Resistance Against Japan was very complicated, so the relevant research foundation was quite frail. In this paper, the intelligence activities and the intelligence content in the Eight Route Army Office in Shanghai (hereinafter referred to as the'Shanghai Eight”)during the early days of the war of Resistance Against Japan are used as the research objects, by combing the message files between the Shanghai Eight Office and the CPC Central Committee from 1937 to 1939 and by collecting all kinds of books of the parties' memoirs, the relevant public and internal publications and the compilation of data and memory books and the research works of various materials, does a preliminary analysis and study on the intelligence work in Shanghai Eight during the period of the Anti-Japanese war .This paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the research topic,research significance,research status,research methods, research difficulties and other relevant circumstances; the second chapter hackles the Shanghai intelligence organization system in a macro-perspective,depicting the establishment of the Shanghai Eight intelligence network, staff composition, source of funding, and the location of the office and intelligence work,which answers what background Shanghai Eight intelligence network was emerged;the third chapter answers the question of the Shanghai Eight intelligence how to collect the information and how to transfer it from the perspective of the intelligence activities, the fourth chapter analyzes the messages between the CPC Central Committee and Shanghai Eight concretely, answering the question of what valuable information the Shanghai Eight intelligence network provides for the CPC Central Committee exactly, and these information had somewhat significant value at that time;the fifth chapter is the peroration, the analysis of the reasons of the revoking of Shanghai Eight Office, and the summary.This paper hackles the Shanghai Eight intelligence network establishment and the intelligence activities during the Anti-Japanese War, using some message files released by recent years, especially the messages between the CPC Central Committee and the Shanghai Eight, trying to make up the shortcomings of the lack of the proof material in the previous study of the intelligence in the history,and demonstrating the great contribution the Shanghai Eight made to the Chinese intelligence work, the Chinese War of Resistance against Japan and the Chinese evolution during this period. This thesis aspires to enrich the research on the history of the Chinese intelligence, deepen the research work on the field of the history of the Anti-Japanese War, China revolution, and the White Area.
