The concept of school-based curriculum began to emerge in the developed Western countries in the 1960 s and 70 s,which compensated for the lack of the national curriculum.Since China is a vast country and the economic development level varies greatly among different regions, the government's uniform curricula have met with impediments in their implementation. Thus the concept of school-based curriculum is introduced into China's curriculum system in accordance with relevant studies at home and abroad.Certain curriculum development rights have been delegated to schools and the focus has been transferred to communities and schools.Various schools at different levels develop their own school-based curricula for different subjects based on their specific conditions.School-based curriculum is developed by a school based on its real circumstances to meet the development demands of its students.Generally speaking, different schools have different school-based curricula.Even though they have the same curricular names, their curricular contents and teaching models are still different.Taking the curriculum of “Chemistry in Life” as the example, this thesis discusses the development of school-based curriculum of high school chemistry based on the real circumstances of the No.8 Senior High School of Dalian Development Zone.My thesis is composed of the following six main parts:The first part is about the thesis subject and the aims and meaning of school-based curriculum. It mainly discusses the research meaning of this thesis subject and the aims and meaning of school-based curriculum. The second part expounds on the relevant concepts of school-based curriculum and analyzes the characteristics and connotations of school-based curriculum. The third part expounds on the status quo of the school-based curriculum development in China in detail after introducing briefly the school-based curriculum development in foreign countries. It introduces the status quo of the school-based curriculum development in China based on the studies at home and abroad.Meanwhileit analyses the status quo of the school-based curriculum development in the No.8Senior High School of Dalian Development Zone according to the school's real circumstances in order to analyze whether the school has the ability to develop its own school-based curriculum. At last it explains the aims and meaning of the school-based curriculum development as well as the aims and meaning of this thesis subject. The fourth part explains the theoretical basis, the aims and the meanings of this thesis subject. It also illustrates the meanings of the studies on this thesis subject. The fifth part mainly introduces the research contents and the implementation process and methods of this study. The students are asked to finish relevant questionnaires first before the implementation of the study in order to analyze the curricular contents that can best meet students' development demands and in which the students have the greatest practice interest.Based on the selected curricular contents, this study analyzes the curricular implementation methods, preparation materials, reasonable set-up and how to mobilize students. This chapter introduces the most typical curricula in different implementation models. The six part is about the evaluations of the implementation of the school-based curriculum of “Chemistry in Life” in the No.8 Senior High School of Dalian Development Zone.Relevant questionnaires are made to allow teachers and students to assess their satisfaction level, content compilation and teaching models of this school-based chemistry curriculum.Reflections and analysis are made based on the questionnaires. At the end of the study, questions and suggestions are put forward concerning the implementation of the school-based chemistry curriculum in the No.8Senior High School of Dalian Development Zone.
