It has long been a tradition for universities to teach general PE courses through indoor volleyball training. This practice has produced a series of undesirable consequences. First, the hard texture of volleyball, its high speed, and a prospect of possible injuries all make students nervous when learning how to play. Second, given that volleyball is a competitive sport requiring stamina and technique, students find it hard to become skillful at it. This has placed great obstacles for the promotion of volleyball at universities. Third, a shortage of PE course hours and a rich content of volleyball training together increase the difficulty of teaching and impair the learning outcomes. To solve the problems mentioned above, this paper strongly recommended the integration of park volley into existed PE courses. The feasibility of this suggestion is examined and analyzed on a practical basis and a fresh approach of volleyball training that involves less teaching difficulty is investigated. A better alternative to refine volleyball skills using several forms of balls is also explored. The aim of this paper is to add new elements to the content of PE classes, to consolidate the learning outcome of volleyball training, to encourage more students to play, and most importantly, to raise students' awareness of life-long physical development. The research methods employed in this paper include a literature review of current research, questionnaires, and experimental study. A cohort of 99 university students of class 2014, who belong respectively to Class One and Two of the Department of Economic Management at Chengdu Sport University, participated in this research. The data obtained is processed and analyzed using SPSS 17.0 and the following conclusions are safely reached:1). The learning outcomes of park volley training in general PE courses are better than indoor volleyball training.2). Male students are quick to integrate skills acquired both from park volley training and indoor volleyball training.3). Female students perform better when adopting the park volley learning approach.4). Park volley contests excel at reaching a solid learning outcome.5). Park volley can boost the sense of participation in playing volleyball among university students. This paper also makes some further recommendations:1). Apart from the general PE courses, universities should offer park volley courses for female students.2). Universities should also acknowledge the advantages of park volley and arrange it to be taught at the introductory level of volleyball training.3). Universities and communities alike should encourage students to found and run societies and clubs that publicly promote park volley.4). More research on the applications of park volley should be conducted both in general physical education and specific PE trainings in schools.
