If children's self-awareness influenced by internal and external environment factors, their study, behavioral habit, interpersonal skill and personality development will be affected. So we have to pay attention to the developing of children's self-awareness.This study has based on the theory of bibliotherapy. the intervention method is after-class reading instructions, reading materials are from Piers-Harris Children' self-awareness Scale which are chosen from six dimensions and self wrote stories mainly. This study discusses the impact that assigned reading and instructions after class made on third graders' self-awareness development.The researcher randomly sampled all the third graders from Experimental primary school of Suzhou hi-tech& new district. One class as experimental group, one as a control group. A 50 minutes' after-class reading instructions are given to the experimental group 10 times in 10 weeks. Before and after the experiment both groups conducted Piers-Harris Children's self-awareness Scale, results showed that:By after-class reading Instruction, the experimental group and the control group in the behavior, intelligence with school situation, anxious, body and the appearance, happiness and satisfied dimensions score difference significant, in affiliation has no significant difference.In the course of the study, collected After- class reading unit design, worksheets, reading feedback sheet, case studies, and other finishing materials, choose from typical data to understand the effect of after- class reading instruction, as a matter of auxiliary materials, the final result showed that our after-class reading activity is favored by the children, it has made positive effect on third graders self-awareness development, especially for children with low self-awareness.
